Sensitive species lists

Modified on Fri, 28 Aug at 1:14 PM

Environmentally sensitive information is any which, if released to the public, would result in an ‘adverse effect’ on a feature of the environment.

For the NBN Atlas, Data Partners do not have to make their own assessments on the sensitivity of their records. Sensitive species lists have been supplied for use on the NBN Atlas. These lists have been agreed by the UK’s statutory bodies and relevant experts. Please note sensitive species lists can vary across the UK (see regional specific lists below).

Regions and combined sensitive species list

Any records for species that are listed on the sensitive species lists (shown below) will be blurred to the resolution stated (i.e., a generalised OS grid reference will be assigned to the record).

Please refer to the individual region lists and combined regions list below, which are available to download in CSV, PDF format or direct you to the sensitive species list page on the NBN Atlas (HTML) (excluding the combined list):

Northern Ireland sensitive species list CSV | PDF | HTML

Scotland sensitive species list XLSX | PDF | HTML  – note that the recommended generalised by NatureScot for Common Oyster (Ostrea edulis) is 20x20km, but the NBN Atlas does not currently support this size generalisation. Therefore, records are generalised to the next highest generalisation, 50x50km.
